Standard sizing is one of the biggest reasons for customer dissatisfaction when ordering items online. For most businesses, this causes a high return rate, mistrust, and, more commonly than you think, triggers body dysmorphia and shame. With GOD, the goal has always been to offer a perfect fit, because garments that fit well, last longer.
At the beginning, when I started developing the styles for the current selection, I invited my friends to the studio for a measure fitting and then eventually to try on the prototypes and final garment samples made based on their measurements. This method of calibrating real person measurements for the best fit allows to form our very own GOD size library, but instead of a capital letter, it is an accurate measurement range. Since most styles are fitted and tested out already on 2-3 people, I am able to better adjust and achieve the perfect fit for any new order.
The made-to-measure method has been used by tailors for decades. There is no magic behind it other than simply adjusting the base pattern to your measurements. It does require particular skill and knowledge to tweak it and make it better. I believe it is important to be transparent about how the process is done in the studio. When you place your order and submit measurements, I go over them and calibrate with the closest measurement doppelganger in the library, select the pattern, and adjust where needed. By adding or taking in a few centimeters here or there, maybe in length or on the waist, the style is cut and then individually sewn together.
When working with limited stock and a variety of different fabrics, it is also important to understand how each fabric might change through wear. Whether that's shrinkage through wash, softening through wear, the garment is not exempt from minor changes. Therefore, for every GOD item, we offer alterations and refitting services, in case something is not quite there. After all, it is really never about what number your hips or waist is. For me, it is just data needed to be at service for you, to make a garment for you. Instead of squeezing you into a size, I cut it to lay on you.
If you are unsure how to measure yourself correctly, reach out and we will plan a 1:1 consultation before placing your order.
